Macao Historical Archives Reading Room
Welcome to the Macao Historical Archives Reading Room.
We request your cooperation in maintaining a tranquil atmosphere conducive to good scholarship and productive research while in the Macao Historical Archives.
The Reading Room is divided into two areas:
1 - Reception Area
Opening times: Monday to Friday - 09:30-18:30; Saturday - 13:00-18:00
Staff: receptionist, security guard.
Facilities:
- reception;
- preset archive databases and links to other archives, with self-help instructions;
- catalogues for consultation;
- sales outlet for publications of the Cultural Affairs Bureau.
You do not need to register to use this zone.
2 - Research Area
Opening times: Monday to Friday - 09:30-18:30; Saturday - 13:00-18:00
Material requests: Monday to Friday, 09:30-12:30, 14:30-17:00
Staff: archives personnel.
Services:
- microfilm readers;
- computers for entering into preset archive databases and links to other archives
- reference library;
- reproduction services.
To use any of these facilities, we ask you to complete a Researcher Registration, and to wait for confirmation that the registration is approved. In addition to completing the Researcher Registration, non-local researchers must present a letter of introduction from an academic institution in his or her home country, or from an academic institution in the Macao S.A.R., attesting to the researcher’s ethical and academic standing. We request your cooperation and understanding in completing this procedure promptly.
Before completing the Researcher Registration, please read the “Use of Research Area” guidance in order to appreciate the proper use of our research facilities. Access and research privileges depend on observing these rules, which are designed to ensure the security of staff, other researchers, and our archival materials.
The Researcher Registration information is stored in a database, and is used for internal management purposes. Please inform us whenever you wish to update any details. Thank you for your cooperation!
