該版畫見於美國海軍准將Matthew Calbraith Perry (1794-1858) 的著作《Narrative of the Expedition of an American Squadron to the China Seas and Japan, Performed in the Years 1852, 1853, and 1854, Under the Command of Commodore M. C. Perry, United States Navy》第1卷，根據該書插圖目錄及版畫上印有之署名，該版畫是以藝術家Eliphalet Brown Jr. (1816-1886) 的畫稿為母本製作而成的木版畫，製版師分別為Lossing & Barritt (上圖)；Richardson & Cox. (下左圖及下右圖)。
