The Archives of Macao Hosted Seminar on Cultural Characteristics of Macao and Lusophone African and Asian Regions

In conjunction with the exhibition "Memories of Moments - Macao and Lusophone African and Asian Regions in Photograph Postcards", the Archives of Macao organized a seminar entitled "Photograph Postcard - Corroboration of the History: Macao and Lusofone African and Asian Regions after Photography Came into Popularization" delivered by senior researcher Mr Luís Sá Cunha on 15 June 2016. The seminar was started with a look back at the invention of steam engine, then lithography, camera and postcard - the inventions which has provided a new means to preserve the past and has enabled communication across time and space.

With over 50 photograph postcards from Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Principe, East Timor and Macao, Mr  Sá Cunha outlined the development of postcard and shared his observations of the geographical changes, social hierarchy and people's mindset and aspiration in these different places that are reflected from the sceneries, gestures, costumes and messages on the postcards. Mr  Sá Cunha also explained the historic significance and research value of postcards. 

The exhibition "Memories of Moments - Macao and Lusophone African and Asian Regions in Photograph Postcards" opens daily, except Mondays and public holidays, from 10:00 to 18:00 at the Archives of Macao on Tap Seac Square.
