Reference code(s) : MO/AH/AC/SA/01/04704

In an official correspondence in October 1914, the Hong Kong government informed the Portuguese Consulate in Hong Kong about cases of Portuguese inhabitants of Macao found to have no permit in their possession upon their arrival in Hong Kong and on their attempt to return to Macao. The Hong Kong government requested that the Macao government to have the related regulation widely promulgated in order to prevent a recurrence of similar incidents.

The Portuguese Consulate in Hong Kong forwarded the request to the Macao government.

As a result of study and coordination for half a year, a notice was published in the Macao Government Gazette in August 1915, announcing that all non-Chinese residents in Macao should obtain from the Police Service of Macao a pass for travel to and from Hong Kong before embarking on their journey.

This record reflects the communications between the governments of Hong Kong and Macao, as well as the entry and exit regulations of the two places a century ago.
