A record of the management and operation fee of Ka Ho Lighthouse on Coloane island shows that the lighthouse was operated at a monthly cost of 11.80 patacas (MOP$11.80). In addition to invoices and receipts of the monthly operation fee from January 1948 to November 1960, the record is also enclosed with a schedule of passenger ferry plying among Macao peninsula, Taipa island and Coloane island from 28 July 1958 to 3 August 1958. The service was operated by “Carreira de Barcos de Passageiros entre Macau, Taipa e Coloane” that used quay no. 7 in the interior port of Macao.

 

“Carreira de Barcos de Passageiros entre Macau, Taipa e Coloane” was established in 1953 to provide passenger ferry service among Macao peninsula, Taipa island and Coloane island. In 1963, the Macao government regularized passenger ferry service by means of concession. In 1974, As a result of the opening of Macao-Taipa Bridge to vehicle traffic, the demand for passenger ferry service declined and the service eventually ceased operation in the same year.
