Reference code(s) : MO/AH/AC/SA/01/27032

In the record about a legal proceeding initiated by Venerable Sin Kang, Abbot of the Barra pagoda for ownership of the pagoda’s assets, there is a floor plan of a building on the land situated at numbers 2, 4 and 6 of Rua Ribeira do Patane in 1904.  In the same year, a trader applied for the government’s approval to the establishment of a cigarette factory in the building at number 2 of that street, as well a shop for selling gunpowder to fishermen in the adjacent building.

In the 1930s, on the land was a two-storey building comprising of a market on the ground floor and a theatre on the upper floor.  In another record (MO/AH/AC/SA/01/14630), there contains an application by a Macao citizen, Alfredo Maria de Luz, for the government’s approval to the establishment of Nanking Theatre (Teatro Nanking) and a license for operation from 1 January 1934.

According to relevant information, Nanking Theatre was adapted to become the Workers' Leisure Centre that began operation on 22 July 1956. There was no significant change to the layout of the building. The ground floor remained as a market until the Pante Municipal Market was opened in April 1976, and the upper floor was used to house the theatre of the Workers' Leisure Centre.

At present, construction works of the new headquarters of Macao Federation of Trade Unions are being carried out on the land.
