The Historical Archives of Macao has invited Ms. Barbara Hassel, a specialist in book and paper conservation from Germany, to give a public lecture on "Western Style Book Conservation (Germany)" in the reading room of the Archives on Tap Seac Square from 3pm to 5pm on Sunday, 8 September 2013.

In preparation for the lecture, the Reading Room will be closed to public on Friday, 21st June, 16:00-18:30. Reading Room service will be resumed on Saturday, 22nd June.

To celebrate China Cultural Heritage Day and International Archives Day, an exhibition "An Art of Precision - Shipbuilding in Macao: People, Craft and Society" is presented by the Historical Archives of Macao under the auspices of Cultural Affairs Bureau. The exhibition will be inaugurated at 15:00 on 8th June 2013 at the Historical Archives of Macao on Tap Seac Square and open to public from 9th June to 7th December 2013.

As part of its continued effort to facilitate the use of Macao's rich archive of historical documents by students, researchers and the general public, the Historical Archives of Macao, a subsidiary of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, today launched a new and improved home on the internet. The updated website features a greater array of enhanced functions, granting visitors more in-depth access to the Archives’ collections and aiding in the location and retrieval of documents.

Present at the opening ceremony were the Member of the Macau Alumni Association of Sun Yat-Sen University of Medical Sciences, Prof. Yu GuoJing; the former Director of Kiang Wu Hospital and Member of the Macau Alumni Association of Sun Yat-Sen University of Medical Sciences, Mr. Leong Chi Fai; the Vice-President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Mr. Yao Jingming; the Member or the Macau Foundation Board of Directors, Mr. Au Weng Chi; the Member of the Executive Council of the Macao S.A.R, Mr. Leong Vai Tac; the Director of the Historical Archives of Macao, Ms. Lau Fong; the President and the Chairman of the Board of the Macau Alumni Association of Sun Yat-Sen University of Medical Sciences, Tong Ka Io and Lo Peng Iok, respectively, among others.

The Historical Archives of Macao of the Cultural Affairs Bureau is holding a series of activities from June 9 (this Saturday) to celebrate the China Cultural Heritage Day and International Archives Day. Members of the public are welcome to participate. The activities include an archival exhibition titled "Witness to Macao History – Chan Tai Pak’s Recollections of over Half a Century", thematic lectures, a workshop on record preservation and conservation and a workshop on oral history.

Due to maintenance work taking place in the Historical Archives of Macao, the Reading Room will be closed from 29th August to 10th September. It will reopen on 12th September.

The Macao Historical Archives operates under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and is responsible for the preservation of records of historic value. Given Macao’s geographical location in a sub-tropical zone, it is essential to actively protect paper records in order to avoid deterioration and ensure their correct preservation. Such measures include regular pest control.
