The Macao Historical Archives operates under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, and is responsible for the preservation of records of historic value. Given Macao’s geographical location in a sub-tropical zone, it is essential to actively protect paper records in order to avoid deterioration and ensure their correct preservation. The Historical Archives of Macao will hold another of its popular conservation workshops on Saturday 24th of July from 14.00 to 17.00. This time the focus will be on binding a buttonhole notebook. No previous experience is required but participants must be at least ten years old. Starting 19th of July, please visit the Historical Archives of Macao (open Mon-Fri, 09:30-18.30, Sat, 13.00-18.00) on Tap Seac Square to register and pay the workshop fee of MOP$20 (inclusive of materials and equipment for the workshop).

Mr. Chan Chak Seng, Acting President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Mr. Chan Hou Seng, Director of the Macao Museum of Art and Mr. Raymond Wong, Assistant Librarian of the University of Macao Library officiated at the opening of the Historical Archives of Macao Open Day and “Remembering Almeida Ribeiro Avenue” exhibition at 10am on 12 June.

The Historical Archives of Macao will hold another of its popular conservation workshops on Saturday 15th of May from 14.00 to 17.00. This time the focus will be on making a protective box with support for a book.

Once or twice a month, on a Saturday afternoon, the Historical Archives of Macao opens its doors to curious members of the public who come to attend one of its Conservation Workshops. Up to twelve participants meet in the Gallery of the old Historical Archives building to learn some of the fascinating skills used in conserving paper records. Designs so far have ranged from paperback and hard cover notebooks to silk-bound volumes and accordion fold-out books.

The Historical Archives of Macao will hold another of its popular binding workshops on Saturday 13th of March from 2pm to 5pm. This time the focus will be on making an attractive pocket book consisting of a single large sheet of folded paper enclosed between two covers. The book can either be expanded outward or kept flat.
