President of the National Archives of Korea, Mr Sang Jin Lee, led a delegation of four members to visit the Archives of Macao on 29 March 2016. The delegation was warmly received by President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Mr Ung Vai Meng, Vice President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, Mr Chan Peng Fai and Director of the Archives of Macao, Ms Lau Fong. During the visit, the Korean delegation introduced the Congress of the International Council on Archives to be held in Seoul in September this year. The two parties exchanged their experiences and ideas on records management. The visit was conducive to the development of archival profession in both places.

In preparation for the Historical Archives of Macao’s Exhibition "The Mastery of Shipbuilding – Fishing Junk Models by Wan Chun", the Reading Room will be closed to public on Tuesday, 29th December. The Reading Room service will be resumed on Wednesday, 30th December.

On 10 November, the General Council of Archive of the MSAR had a meeting in the conference room of the Cultural Affairs Bureau Building to present the achievements of the two cross-departmental working groups; namely, the group for “Retention Schedule for Common Administrative Records” and “Technical Specification for Digitization of Paper Records”. Alexis, Tam Chon Weng, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture and President of the General Council of Archives, chaired the meeting.

A cooperation protocol was signed between the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region and the Macau Scientific and Cultural Centre of the Ministry of Education and Science of Portugal. The signing ceremony, which took place in the Macau Scientific and Cultural Centre in Portugal on 21 October 2015, was attended by Mr Ung Vai Meng, President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Macao, Ms Andrea Direito, Advisor of the Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of Macao, Ms Lau Fong, Director of the Historical Archives of Macao, Professor Luís Filipe Barreto, President of the Macau Scientific and Cultural Centre and Mr Rui de Faria Afonso de Abreu Dantas, Chief of the Division of Museum Studies, Training and Interactive Technologies of the Centre.

A memorandum of understanding for cooperation in archival domain was signed between the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region and the General Directorate for Book, Archives and Libraries of Portugal. The signing ceremony, which took place in the National Archives of Portugal on 20 October 2015, was attended by Mr Ung Vai Meng, President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Macao, Ms Andrea Direito, Advisor of the Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of Macao, Ms Lau Fong, Director of the Historical Archives of Macao, Mr Silvestre de Almeida Lacerda, General Director for Book, Archives and Libraries of Portugal and Ms Cristina Faustino, representative of Camões Mission – Institute for Cooperation and Language of Portugal.

The Historical Archives of Macao organized a themed lecture to complement the archival exhibition “Shanghai Portuguese Refugees in Macao (1937-1964)” on 11 June 2015. The lecture, which was presented by Associate Professor at the Lisbon College of Education and Researcher at the Centre of Geographical Studies of the University of Lisbon Mr Alfredo Gomes Dias, featured the characteristics of Macanese emigration and the relief measures and living conditions for Portuguese refugees in Macao. It received enthusiastic response from the audience and concluded with a lively Q&A session.

In celebration of International Archives Day, the Historical Archives of Macao under the auspices of Cultural Affairs Bureau presents an archival exhibition “Shanghai Portuguese Refugees in Macao (1937-1964)” from 10th June to 6th December 2015. The exhibition was inaugurated with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 18:30 yesterday (9th June) at the Historical Archives of Macao on Tap Seac Square. The ceremony was graced by Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Culture of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR Mr Zhang Xiaoguang, President of the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, Mr Ung Vai Meng, Consul-General of Portugal in Macao and Hong Kong, Mr Vítor Sereno, Associate Professor at the Lisbon College of Education and Researcher at the Centre of Geographical Studies of the University of Lisbon Mr Alfredo Gomes Dias and lender of items to the exhibition, Ms Maria Teresa Véstia.

In celebration of the International Archives Day, the Historical Archives of Macao (HAM), under the auspices of Cultural Affairs Bureau, present the exhibition “Shanghai Portuguese Refugees in Macao (1937-1964)” and will hold related lectures from 10 June to 6 December 2015. The exhibition will be inaugurated on 9 June at 6:30pm at the Historical Archives of Macao on Tap Seac Square. A series of lectures on the theme is scheduled during the exhibition period. The first lecture will be held on 11 June at the Auditorium of the Cultural Affairs Bureau on Tap Seac Square from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.
